A Wedding at Ayrburn: Lucy & Rupert’s Arrowtown-Inspired Celebration
Set against the Queenstown high country, Ayrburn has become one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the South Island, and one of our favourite settings to design for. When Lucy and Rupert came to us ahead of their Ayrburn wedding, they brought something we hadn’t been asked for before: a piece of Arrowtown itself, hand-drawn into their stationery suite.
A detail worth building a suite around
Lucy commissioned a bespoke, hand-drawn illustration of Arrowtown, the historic gold-mining town just minutes from Ayrburn, to feature across their stationery. It’s the kind of detail that turns a suite from simply beautiful into genuinely personal: a nod to the place that shaped their relationship with the region, carried through from their invitations to their day-of details.
Illustrated details like this are one of our favourite ways to bring a fully custom element into an otherwise semi-custom or considered suite. It doesn’t need to be the whole design. Often, a single hand-drawn motif, worked carefully into an existing layout, does more to make a suite feel like yours than starting from a blank page ever could.
Why Ayrburn suits this kind of detail
Ayrburn’s setting, a restored 19th-century farm estate turned into one of Queenstown’s most striking event spaces, lends itself naturally to stationery with a strong sense of place. The stonework, the mountain backdrop and the historic buildings all carry a story, and couples marrying there are often drawn to stationery that reflects the region rather than sitting apart from it.
